Asian Culture

These 2 pictures are pictures of a Chinese restaurant. I chose these 2 pictures because it has showed Chinese culture became part of Canadian Identity as everyone can see that there are a lot of Chinese restaurant at Markham. Chinese great immigration every year had made Canada to accept Chinese culture, but most of them are Cantonese. This falls to Category 1.

Most Chinese people start to immigrate to Canada in the 1800s, because they though they have political, personal, religious freedom, they have greater economic opportunities. Canada had opened the gate to Chinese after U.S. did. Canada encouraged Chinese labour to immigrate to Canada to assist building railways. In 1885, Canada Parliament start to charge Chinese and South Asian the "head tax". Canadian Citizenship Act in 1947 allowed wives and children to enter Canada, but until 1967, Canadian Citizenship finally restricted the legislation based on nationality, ethnic groups, class or area of origin.

Dradon-Boat Festival

On these 2 pictures one is rice puddings that are separated in different taste that is selling in T&T, and the other one is dragon boat race. I chose these 2 pictures because they showed Canadians are participating in international events.  Chinese eat these puddings at Dragon-Boat Festival. Normally at this day, people race each other on Boating. This falls to the 2nd category.

At Vancouver, people celebrate the Canada International Dragon Boat Festival, which was lunched 6 years ago. Almost everyone in Vancouver knows how to row a boat. There are over 80 local teams and around 2500 paddlers. People came together for 3 days, June17-19, to race each other. This Festival attracted over 10000 visitors and over 100 local and international teams had become the largest festival of its kind in North America. The first time Vancouver got the idea of Boat racing was from Expo '86, when Chinese Cultural Center sponsored a race which featured 30 local teams. 3 years later the International Dragon Boat Festival established.

This picture is the logo of CBC. I chose this picture because it is the symbol of CBC.CBC is largely related to Unit 2 in History class: From Boom to Bust, which falls in Category 6.
Canadian radio began with a private commercial radio station in 1922. CBC was established in 1932 as Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission (CRBC). Then CRBC was replaced with a Crown Corporation and Canadian's national public broadcaster was born. CBC is one of the Canadian greatest cultural institutions. Some services CBC has right now are news, music, books, sports and radios.

Holocaust Merorial

These 2 pictures are related to the topic because on one of the pictures there is a stand, it says The Brown- Nusbaum Family Exhibition center and the other one shows the background of this stand. I took these 2 pictures on a field trip, where our History class went, to learn more about Jews at Holocaust. I chose these 2 pictures because had showed that Canada had tried a lot to keep the History and also wish that everyone can learn from it.

Holocaust started at 1933 and ended in 1945, which is the end of WW2. Nazis forced Jew to live together in a certain area, called ghettos. Before WW2 started most Jews were political prisoners. After WW2 started Jews were required to wear the Star of David. Jews in the concentration camps were used as slavery, medical test samples, or killed in gas chambers. Jewish family, at that time, would hide their children in 2 ways: Physical and Identical.

French & English

This picture is the cap of a yogurt. I chose this picture because it is related to Bill 101, which falls in the Category 8, because it has both English and French on it.
Bill 101, Charte de la langue Française, had made French became the official language of Quebec, became the habitual language of the workplace, instruction, communication, and commerce, and also became the compulsory course for immigrants. Before Bill 101, there was a Bill 1, which was withdrawn because of the pressure that came from the Liberal opposition. Supreme Court of Canada had supported the Quebec Supreme Court, and in 1984, Bill 101 passed. This caused the conflict between Anglophone and Francophone.
